Emergency Management Southland is hiring a new Emergency Management Group Manager and Controller. Whilst that process is underway EMS is seeking expressions of interest for a temporary role, to manage the team in the interim.
We are looking for an experienced manager to help for an initial period of 3 months with potential to be extended.

Emergency Management Southland is a partnership of the four Councils of Southland. This role enables Environment Southland, Invercargill City Council, Southland District Council and Gore District Council (the Councils) to fulfil their civil defence obligations and to help Southlanders to be resilient to hazards and prepare for responses to emergencies.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
In this role, you will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Emergency Management Southland team. This will include helping the Southland community to increase its resilience and improve its preparedness for emergencies. The position will contribute to developing and maintaining an effective level of capability across the 4R’s of reduction, readiness, response and recovery.
The role engages at a national level with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to ensure that Southland is involved in national planning. Additionally EMS provides a key leadership role with other agencies supporting the Alpine Fault 8 (AF8) programme of work.
You will coordinate and provide regular reports to the Coordinating Executive Group (CEG) and the Southland Civil Defence Emergency Management Group (SCDEMG).

We are looking for a candidate with the following attributes:

· Proven management experience
· Excellent relationship management skills
- Ideally demonstrated experience in Civil Defence groups or responses
- Ability to get up to speed fast and support the existing team
- Strong communication and influencing skills – written and verbal.
