DRC appointed on 16.3.86 for 28 days, renewed for 28 days and concluded 11.5.86. 1160 people evacuated from Pleasant Point to Timaru and 200 from Seadown to Temuka. One death. Insurance claims, excluding EQC totalled $27.2m (1994). Rail and road damage was estimated at $30.65m (1991). Agricultural assistance estimated at $4.67m (1991)
