Review of Recoveries Report

The Review of Recoveries Report summarises the findings of the independent review of how recovery provisions of the CDEM Act supported the recoveries after the 2016 earthquakes and tsunami and the 2017 flooding in the Whakatāne District.

MCDEM commissioned an independent review of how the newly legislated recovery provisions of the CDEM Act supported the recoveries after the November 2016 earthquakes and tsunami and the April 2017 Whakatāne District flooding, and how the provisions were applied in practice.

The Report found the excellent progress after both recoveries was a tribute to the dedicated work and huge commitment of those involved.

Overall, feedback confirmed the legislative changes to the CDEM Act enabled better recovery activities for both recoveries, and helped raise the profile of recovery.

Recommendations in the Report align with and support work MCDEM already has underway or planned, including the emergency management system reform.
