National transition period extended for Kaikōura quake recovery

Civil Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee has given notice of an extension to the national transition period in Kaikōura and Hurunui Districts and the Wairau-Awatere ward of Marlborough District.

This extension of the transition period -

(a) comes into force immediately before the period ends (that is, immediately before 1.00pm on 9 March 2017), and

(b) ends 90 days after the time and date on which it comes into force (that is, at 1.00pm on 7 June 2017), unless extended or terminated earlier.

The national transition period allows the National Recovery Manager to coordinate the work of central government agencies, while also allowing local authorities to continue effective recovery work on the ground.
