Exercise Name: Exercise Pacific Wave

Exercise Theme: Tsunami

Participating Agencies: Central Government agencies and all 16 CDEM Groups.

Details: New Zealand is vulnerable to tsunami. This exercise was developed around the scenario of a tsunami generated from an earthquake on the Chilean coast.

Details: Exercise Capital Quake ‘06 involved over 50 organisations and more than 1000 people over a 36 hour period, and was one of the largest whole of central government exercises to be held. The exercise was designed to test New Zealand’s all-of-nation arrangements for responding to a major Civil Defence emergency - a 7.6 earthquake on the Wellington Fault.
