Exercise Name: Exercise Tangaroa
Exercise Theme: Tsunami

Participating Agencies: All 16 CDEM Groups, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, NZ Police, New Zealand Fire Service, NZ Defence Force, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Economic Development, National Welfare Coordination Group, NZ Aid, Ministry of Transport, with other agencies to be confirmed.
Details: The theme and objectives for the national Tier 4 exercise in 2010 were agreed by the NEP Governance Group at the annual meeting held on 25 August 2009. The exercise will test the response to a distant source tsunami.
A great deal of work has been done to enhance tsunami preparedness and response in New Zealand over the last few years. This exercise presents an opportunity to assess this planning at the national, regional and local levels and includes, but is not limited to, the Tsunami Risk Management Programme work including:

Exercise Name: Exercise Pacific Wave
Exercise Theme: Tsunami

Details: Exercise Pacific Wave is another tsunami-themed exercise to be conducted some time in the first quarter of 2011. The international tsunami community will participate in this exercise along with support from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre (PTWC) in Hawaii. The exercise scenario will be a south west Pacific regional source tsunami (likely in the Tonga/Kermadec trench) with less than 3 hours warning for New Zealand. New Zealand will take part in the exercise by testing the national warning system
