Plastic Sheeting in Emergencies - Guidelines Available
The International Red Cross Federation has worked with Oxfam to produce plastic sheeting guidelines for the recovery sector. Plastic sheeting can be an essential shelter component following large disasters, however when it is distributed it is typically not complemented by guidance on how to take a relief item and use it to provide adequate shelter.
The guidelines developed aim to provide such field guidance, promoting locally-driven construction practices which can form the basis of locally-driven recovery activities. They include when and where to use sheeting, how to tie and secure sheeting, basic construction guides for items such as latrines and how to store sheeting, among other useful tips.
