Mark your diaries - Get Ready Week 23 - 29 September 2012
Get Ready Week
Every year since the early nineties, the United Nations organises a World Disaster Reduction Campaign, which culminates on International Disaster Reduction Day, the second Wednesday of October.
In New Zealand, the Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management working in collaboration with Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Groups around the country, has promoted a week of activities aimed at raising awareness of hazards and the need to be prepared. Get Ready Week is aimed at having a heightened period of activity to get across key CDEM messages to the general public with an intensive national mass media advertising campaign, reinforced by local and regional community based activities.
For 2012 please note that we have brought forward Get Ready Week to late September in support of ShakeOut, New Zealand's first national earthquake drill. For information on activities and events please visit www.shakeout.govt.nz
