RAPID overview
RAPID® (Response and Preparedness in Disasters) is a Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management training programme delivered in partnership with the Local Government Industry Training Organisation. In 2008, the Ministry’s CDEM Specialist Services team informed the CDEM sector of the Ministry’s work on the development of the CDEM Competency Framework.

The Ministry decided that the professional development needs of the CDEM sector would be better served by temporarily suspending work on re-developing RAPID® modules and focusing on advancing the Competency Framework Project. The CDEM Competency Framework Project will result in an evidence-based framework that can then be used to review RAPID® modules against.

It is important to note that current users of the RAPID® programme are not disadvantaged by the temporary suspension of further re-development work on RAPID®. The Ministry and the Local Government Industry Training Organisation (LGITO) CDEM Advisory Group have been working together to complete and make available on LGITO’s website, materials that have been re-developed.

Subscribers (CDEM Groups and tertiary providers) to RAPID® are welcome to continue to use the materials on the RAPID® CD Roms, but are advised to seek additional reference material and check the LGITO website regularly to identify if new materials are available for unit standards currently identified in the original RAPID® Pathway.
