History and activities
Rotorua has been able to offer a fully trained General Rescue Team for many years but was only registered on August 11, 2005 with the minimum six Orange Card holders. Now the team has 15 regular members, meeting weekly on Tuesday evenings (3 hours), with some weekend training and exercising taking place. NZ-RT15 is one of three registered teams in the Bay of Plenty (NZ-RT16, Tauranga and NZRT17, Whakatane) and is owned by Rotorua District Council.

2008/9 Assist Police with missing persons around the City.
Capability of the team includes 10 Orange Card qualified, one upskilled paramedic, two USAR medics, two nurses (all confined space qualified) and 12 members with rope responder qualifications.
Training and assessing recently has incorporated all the core skill units and aircraft safety with some members attending courses in communications and welfare/supervisor.
The team have taken part in the BOP Febex weekend in 2007 and in the Taupo organized competition ResEx 09.
Rescue HQ is situated at the Council’s Castlcorp site with training rooms, equipment sheds, showers, kitchen etc.
The team owns a large rescue equipment trailer plus a smaller support trailer.
The team members are all keen to progress their capabilities and improve their skills across the board and to work alongside the emergency services at events.
