History and activities
NZ-RT5 had been a North Shore City Council rescue team for nearly twenty years until the merging of seven Local Authorities Councils into the new Auckland Council. It is now one of two Auckland Council teams with NZ-RT3
We currently have 21 active members, but may recruit up to a maximum of 24.
Training is held every Tuesday night and one weekend per month. All team members aim to hold a minimum qualification of ‘Orange Card Responder’, which is a NZ certification ensuring minimum industry standard of competency. There are also specialists within the team, including Rope Rescuers, Radio Communications, and members trained in Prehospital Medical Care.
Recent deployments have included:
- Members deployed to the January 2011 Floods in Queensland as part of the New Zealand composite Team.
- The Christchurch Earthquakes in September 2010,
- The Christchurch Earthquakes in February 2011, with the team providing members for multiple deployments.
- The team has also responded to storm and flood events in Auckland City.
The goals of the team is to develop Rope Responders or other specialities. As our major risks in the area are flooding and storms, the team are looking to develop further capabilities in these areas.
Expressions of interest for joining the response teams should be sent via the online form at www.aucklandcivildefence.org.nz
