Emergency Management Teams
New Zealand Red Cross (NZRC) Teams provide support to Civil Defence (Territorial Authorities) and other emergency services during local, regional and national emergencies. Teams also provide assistance to Emergency services in non-declared events.
New Zealand Red Cross has 18 regional Disaster Welfare and Support Teams (DWST) covering New Zealand as shown on map. These teams are able to provide emergency welfare, first aid up to pre-hospital emergency care, casualty handling/ground based rescue, relief and water distribution and community outreach services and can be responded anywhere across the country as required.
New Zealand Red Cross also has a National Disaster Response Team which is able to provide all the above services plus light rescue/USAR support throughout New Zealand. This team is drawn from DWST members and is deployable overseas, primarily in New Zealand Red Cross’ regional area of responsibility which is Australia, the South Pacific & SE Asia.
Specialist expertise is also available from the NZRC International Aid Workers in areas of Water and Sanitation, Telecommunications, Warehousing, Logistics and IMT /EOC expertise from the Australian Red Cross.
