Details: Exercise PacWave ‘11 was conducted on Thursday 10 November 2011 with the focus on a regional source tsunami scenario. New Zealand elected to use a scenario originating in Vanuatu. While this will affect both west and east coasts of New Zealand to varying degrees, the larger impacts will be on the west coast of the country.

Although not formally part of the national CDEM exercise programme, the National Exercise Programme Governance Group agreed at its meeting in June to participate in the exercise with each CDEM Group to decide on its level of engagement.

Options that CDEM Groups could consider ranged from straight forward communications tests of principal emergency contacts, to full-scale alerting and ‘warm-body’ evacuations of people from tsunami hazard zones.
