Senior Policy Advisor
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) serves to advance a confident, well-governed and secure New Zealand. The Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management (MCDEM), within DPMC, has a fundamental driver to work with its stakeholders to create a new way of thinking about civil defence emergency management.

This position within the DPMC National Security Policy team provides high quality policy and other advice to the Directors of MCDEM and National Security Policy to support their roles in advising senior officials, Ministers and Cabinet.

Your strengths will include:
  • Proven relationship management skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Policy, regulatory or strategic planning
Experience in a policy role in central government, local government, or private providers or regulators of infrastructure would be an advantage.

You must be able to obtain able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, develop a deep understanding of the role of the MCDEM and DPMC and be available to provide support during emergencies. CDEM sector vacancies

Emergency Management Officer, 0.5FTE, Waitaki District Council

Waitaki District Council is looking to fill a newly created position for an Emergency Management Officer, 0.5FTE located in Oamaru, reporting to the Manager Emergency Management. You will ideally have experience in Civil Defence or emergency services.

While the role is diverse, and can change quickly dependent on events that arise, one key area of responsibility is providing training to schools and across our strong volunteer network.

The Waitaki area can be prone to hazard events, the most common being flooding, snow storms and rural fire. These events will require you to play a critical part in supporting the emergency operation within the Waitaki Emergency Operations Centre when it is activated.
