Auckland Council: Senior Training and Capability Advisor
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced training and capability professional to take responsibility for continuing the ongoing development of staff and the team that is integral to Auckland's Emergency Management capability.
The key purpose of this role is to support the Civil Defence and Emergency Management (CDEM) team by championing training for operations, while taking a holistic approach to build on team and individual capability by developing and implementing a comprehensive professional development programme that supports intra-agency, interagency and volunteers within the community through:
- management of training and development
- capability development planning
- liaison with stakeholders and suppliers within the sector
- advising and leading the development of training exercises for the team and the units within
- the team
- where appropriate, deliver some or all aspects of training
- attendance at national exercise and training forums
- represent Auckland Council CDEM team on any training conferences and framework meetings.
You will be responsible for leading and where appropriate supporting others with the implementation of the individual development and team level training initiatives and exercises with the Emergency Operations/Coordination Centre and alongside other partners and stakeholder groups. You will also be required to have significant input into the national development and roll out of the Integrated Training Framework at a team-level whilst monitoring current capabilities and mapping future requirements.
We would expect you to have experience in evaluating individual and team-based capability as well as in providing significant support to management teams in the planning and execution of development and training exercises. Previous experience in the design and implementation of Adult Education initiatives or in the development of Learning & Development frameworks would be highly beneficial.
The Civil Defence Emergency Management Act (CDEM) 2002 directs council organisations to take steps to develop and maintain an effective level of capability across the 4Rs; Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery (comprehensive emergency management). This position is deemed a safety sensitive position and will require pre-employment drug testing. This role also requires a full and clean New Zealand driver's license as driving a council vehicle is required.
As our business operates 7 days a week, flexibility to work in a rostered on-call environment is essential as is the availability to attend for a variety of community-based events and other selected emergency response/training activations.
